Grab your popcorn; the straw hats are about to set sail!
Finally, it’s almost time for the long-anticipated Netflix’s live-action One Piece to premiere.
Yes, you read it right: the live-action adaptation of One Piece is only hours away from setting sail on Netflix. Now, Netflix doesn’t have an excellent track record for live-action anime adaptations. Talk about 2017’s Death Note or 2021’s Cowboy Bebop – all ignored or widely derided after their release.
However, that now looks to change given that Netflix’s long-awaited live-action series, One Piece, is only hours away from setting sail on the arguably largest streaming platform on the planet.
The stage’s set and the final trailer is out
Netflix just released the final trailer for the live-action adaptation of One Piece – it offers a glimpse of what to expect before the series sets sail. The trailer showcases the action and emotion of the series and introduces the heroes and villains encountered throughout the quest.
From the trailer, the heroes will come across many fantastic things on the high seas as they strive to find the legendary One Piece treasure. This final trailer also offers the best look audiences so far at the antagonists. In fact, there’s the appearance of Koby (Morgan Davies) – the fans will not forget about him, given that he was Luffy’s early friend when he first started his adventure.
Here’s the catch: Of all the trailers thus far, this final trailer is arguably the most emotion-driven, and it’s also the most action-driven.
One Piece’s release date
You can watch ONE PIECE at 12 a.m. PT/4 p.m. JST on Thursday, Aug. 31 – merely a few hours away. The first teaser for One Piece was released on June 18, 2023, and the minute-and-a-half-long trailer offered a healthy taste of the adventure as well as the humor the series presents.
Moreover, the sneak peek released on Netflix’s 2022 Geeked Week offered a glimpse of the set and the concept art. The full-length of the series’ live-action official trailer was released on July 22 in honor of One Piece Day. The trailer teases the treasure of the legendary pirate king and shows Luffy gathering the crew.
It wasn’t until last week that Netflix released the behind-the-scenes video that shows the cast as well as the creative team going over the work that went into adapting one of the most famous mangas of all time into live-action.
Also, fans got a taste of the official Japanese-language trailer for the series that features an original voice cast from the anime. There’s no denying that seeing the trailer in the original cast’s voices is absolutely special.
Where was the One Piece live-action series filmed?
The series’ production was set to kick off in the summer of 2020 in Cape Town, South Africa. However, due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the production was delayed and started in March 2021.
The filming was completed in August 2022 as the cast and crew uploaded several pictures as they bid farewell to Cape Town.
What to expect from the One Piece live – Adaptation’s season 1
All is just from the trailers thus far and what has been said. However, season 1 of One Piece’s live-action adaptation will cover the East Blue arc from the manga. This is the part of the ocean where the protagonist begins his adventure as a pirate.
At a tender age, he ate the “devil fruit” (Gum-Gum) that gave him a rubber-like body that stretches, bends, and inflates at will. In his adventure, Luffy is set on becoming the king of the pirates by discovering the legendary pirate secret treasure ‘One Piece.’ However, he has to endure a perilous journey to the stretch of the ocean.
He starts the journey alone, but with time, he gathers a crew with their dreams that become lifelong friends. The list of the series’ cast is long, as you’ll find out starting tomorrow.
